Dream Temple

Dream Temple
2002

This painting was inspired by exploring and reading about dreams and how different cultures through out our times have used dreams to find answers they seek. Many cultures created sacred places where one would go and dream safely. There were different ceremonies involved, depending on the culture.
Dream Temple is my idea of a sacred space created for dreaming. The temple itself was inspired by my exposure the decor of some of the old/ancient cathedrals I visited in France. They used magical symbols, cycles of the moon and deep spiritual blues, gold with rich reds. The cheetah are the guardians and guides of the dreamer. They serve a purpose both on the physical realm and on the dream realm. The flowers and incense are fragrances that sooth body into sleep. Being surrounded by water brings the subconscious closer and the high snowy mountains in the back remind one of the realms where one's answers may lie.
